The day I sat down to write my review of the Klean Kanteen 20oz vacuum bottle, it was 25 degrees out. A perfect time to discuss the features of this 20 ounce, wide mouth bottle, and why you need one.
First, it’s made with 18/8 food-grade stainless steel. As Klean Kanteen so neatly explains on their website, this is so it does not retain or impart flavors. Feel free to load it up with soup or spicy chili one day, and coffee or green tea the next. It will taste like whatever you have in it, not what was in it last week.
Double wall vacuum construction means it will keep your hot drinks hot for up to six hours, and next summer, it will keep your cold drinks cold for up to 24 hours. This is because the vacuum, or empty space between the walls, will not allow heat to transfer by convection. It’s like holding physics right in your hand. Your science teacher will be proud of you if you buy this, since you now understand how and why it works.
It’s compatible with that filter you bought after you got sick from drinking what you thought was clean water. Okay, maybe that didn’t happen. But if you have a water filter for camping, chances are that your Klean Kanteen is compatible.
There are two lid options – a stainless wide loop that makes the inside 100% stainless, or a plastic lid that turns it into an adult sippy cup. Note that the sippy lid is not leak-proof. A 2.125 inch opening makes it easy to fill, and when it’s hot out, easy to pack it with ice.
Cool colors! Eight colors to choose from, with names like Deep Sea, Granite Peak, Neptune Blue, Roaster Pepper, Vineyard Green, Wild Grape, Shale Black. There is also a Brushed Stainless option, for those with an aversion to scratched paint.
So, it fits in your hand, it fits in the cup holders in your car, and at 3.0 inches wide, it fits in a standard bicycle water bottle cage. After using it for my morning coffee, I realized it is the perfect accessory for my new fat bike. With bottle cage mounts on the fork, my Klean Kanteen has a new home.
